I saw Neil one of the other guys who is going on the A5 ride last night at Choi and it occurred to us that we havn't got that long until May. I've decided to get some time in the saddle tomorrow morning. I've been thinking about the possibility of riding to work one day a week so I've planned out a back way route from Hitchin to Royston that I'm going to try tomorrow and see if it is do-able in a reasonable time without getting lost. As it's somewhere between 15-20 miles one way I may be catching a train home from Royston.
Commuting by bike is an excellent way to train (well it's an excellent thing to do, full stop, but that's another story), but 20 miles each way is going to hurt a great deal if you jump at it straight away. Ride and rail is a good way to build up the distance, but you should aim to go both ways pretty soon, on at least one day a week.
1.5 hours for 20 miles on a heavy cheap'n'nasty mtb is pretty good, but get your road bike sooner rather than later.
“ Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:1-2) (Read by Max McLean. Provided by The Listener's Audio Bible.)

Good news I've got some overtime money coming so I'm getting my bike this week. Woppee!
Thanks for you advice I'm riding to work tomorrow and hope to do a 2 way trip next week.
